Sturdy Strong Knees: follow-along workout #4

Healthy knees have middle child syndrome. Their ability to tolerate what you give them depends on the rotational control developed by the foot below and the hips above. When control here is solid, you steer your leg straight and can properly target the quads and hamstrings on the front and back of the leg to build durability and unload the stresses in the knee caps.

But the reality is patella-femoral (knee cap) pain is one of the top three overuse injuries. The vast majority of the time it comes down to the feet and hips not being in sync to control and stabilize the alignment of the leg, thus creating excessive shear to the kneecap structures. And when this stress creates irritation, we start to become leery of loading the knee. This is a major problem because unless you load the knee tissues safely, they will never get a stimulus to improve!

Improving knee health comes down to 2 criteria:

1. learn to steer your parts straight

2. improve the quad and hamstring tolerance to build durability and unload the tissues around the knee cap. This simple program improves BOTH!
